Eileen “Joyce” Adkins, age 89, of Sheldon who passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Vista Prairie at Fieldcrest in Sheldon, Iowa. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at the Newkirk Reformed Church in Newkirk, Iowa with Rev. Dennis Hietbrink ~ officiating.
Burial will be in the Newkirk Cemetery in Newkirk, Iowa.
Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00am until the time of service on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at the Newkirk Reformed Church in Newkirk, Iowa

Eileen “Joyce” Adkins, the daughter of Ellis “Bug” and Winnie “Wink” (Wesselink) De Bruin was born January 15, 1932 in Hospers, Iowa, where she grew up and attended school graduating from Hospers High School in 1949. Joyce was united in marriage to Donald Elmer Adkins on June 2, 1950 in the Hospers Reformed Church in Hospers by Rev, Gerrit Doctor. They were blessed with 2 sons, Paul and Scott. With Don’s teaching career, the couple lived in various locations, including Terril, Sutherland and Newkirk. Upon retirement they moved to Hospers and later to Sheldon. They entered Fieldcrest in July of 2017. Don preceded her in death on May 23, 2019 in Sheldon, IA. She passed away at Fieldcrest on Saturday, December 11, 2021 reaching the age of 89 years, 10 months and 26 days.
Joyce was a long-time member of the Newkirk Reformed Church in Newkirk. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed all of their activities, such as baseball, softball, football, basketball, track, wrestling and dance. They believed that high school athletics were the best, as they attended most of their games and continued attending high school games even after their grandkids were out of school.
Those who will honor and cherish her memory is her son, Paul and his wife, Carol Adkins of Sioux Center, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Judy Adkins of Sheldon; 6 grandchildren, Chris (Kristen) Adkins, Kari (Brian) Schmalbeck, Corey (Libby) Adkins, Haviland (Steve) Brick, Hilary (Tyler) Halverson and Hayden (Tysa) Adkins; 13 great grandchildren, Tyus, Cade, Tatum, Maci, Avery, Tregger, Traeden, Mariana, Tierney, Keegan, Makinley, Gemma and Breklyn; 2 sisters, Donna Nibbelink of Santa Clarita, California and Marilyn (Herm) Vander Maten of Surprise, Arizona and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, a son, Scott, her parents, Ellis “Bug” and Winnie “Wink” De Bruin, her in-laws, William and Emma Adkins, a brother-in-law, Jed Nibbelink.
