Edward Ray Hattermann, the son of Bruene Sr. and Viola (Appeldorn) Hattermann was born on January 2, 1930 near Paullina, Iowa. He was baptized at the family home on June 1, 1930 and later confirmed on May 16, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He attended country school through the 8th grade. Ed enlisted in the United States Army on December 5, 1952 during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on December 4, 1954. Ed was united in marriage to Norma Koch on September 2, 1956 in Paullina, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived on a farm near Germantown where Ed farmed. The couple moved into Paullina in 1984. Norma preceded Ed in death on March 12, 2013. Ed remained in Paullina until his passing on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa.
Ed was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He was a long-time member of the Russell West Post of the Paullina American Legion and the Germantown Fire Department. He enjoyed helping with auctions, gardening and playing cards.
Left to cherish Ed’s memory are his sons, Todd and his wife, Deb Hattermann and Darin Hattermann all of Paullina; three grandchildren, Jessica and Tyler Hattermann and Kayla and husband Robby Haggin and their children, Kenna and Levi. He is also survived by his two sisters, Hazel Meyer of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Hilda Pauling of Bentonville, Arkansas; special friend and caretaker, Vicki; also other relatives, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; one brother, Bruene Hattermann Jr. and his wife Marlene and two brothers-in-law, Arthur Meyer and Eldred Pauling.
