Edith Visser
Edith Visser, the daughter of Harm and Susan (Brink) Oldenkamp was born April 9, 1925 near Boyden, Iowa. She received her education at country school near Boyden. In April of 1946 she was united in marriage to Ben Visser after his return from W.W. II. They made their home in Sheldon. Ben preceded her in death on March 10, 1960 in Sheldon. After Ben’s sudden passing Edith went to work for Montgomery Ward’s in Sheldon. She later worked at Kat’s Hardware for eight years and in 1978 started working at J.C. Penney’s in Sheldon, retiring as the manager of the towel and linen section. Edith continued to make her home in Sheldon and in November of 2003 moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon. In November of 2007 she moved to the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa. She passed away at Pleasant Acres on Monday December 27, 2010 reaching the age of 85 years 8 months and 8 days.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. She enjoyed a huge beautiful garden where she raised many vegetables, but her plump tomatoes were her pride and joy. She enjoyed family times especially her time at Lake Shetek in Minnesota with her family fishing and spending time together. Edith enjoyed crocheting, cooking and the holidays especially Thanksgiving and Christmas with family dinners.
Edith is survived by her children Lorene and her husband Allan Mouw of Sheldon, Robert and his wife Roma Visser of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Doris and her husband Jerry Welsh of Boone, Iowa, seven grandchildren ,seven great grandchildren; one sister Geraldine Bouma of Omaha, Nebraska and two sister-in-laws Cornelia Oldenkamp of Sheldon and Delores Visser of Sioux City; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six sisters Jennie Van Es, Tena DeRaad, Susanna Westra, Gertrude Oldenkamp, Christine Lode and Hermina Lode, four brothers William, Sam, Henry and John Oldenkamp as well as two brothers and two sisters in infancy.
