EARLE V. ULRICH
Earle Vernon Ulrich was one of ten children born to Elmer and Zulah (Stewart) Ulrich of Dakota City, Iowa on December 5, 1929. He received his education in Dakota City and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1949. On September 5, 1950, he and twelve of his friends left for the Great Lakes Navel Training School in Great Lakes, Illinois. He completed 4 years in the Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. On June 21, 1952, Earle was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Ruse at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt, Iowa. After his discharge from the service the couple lived in Humboldt for a few years. In 1957, they moved to Sheldon, Iowa where he was the area Supervisor for the Des Moines Register overseeing 144 carriers. Later on he was employed by the Swanson Grocery Store (now known as Hy-Vee) for 18 years. He then worked for the APAR Wholesale Produce for 16 years, traveling the Minnesota and Iowa Lakes area. After his retirement Earle worked part-time at the new Sears Store and for 11 ½ years for Jensen Liquor both of Sheldon. Earle passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn, Iowa due to complications of cancer, reaching the age of 80 years, 4 months and 6 days.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Sheldon Knights of Columbus, the Eagles Club and the Sheldon Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing, volunteering whenever and wherever he could, attending all of Sheldon sporting events and especially spending time with his family and friends.
Earle leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years, Marilyn of Sheldon; and their 3 children and their spouses, Doug and Nita Ulrich of Burnsville, Minnesota; Steve and Barb Ulrich of Ankeny, Iowa and Mary and Scott Jensen of Sheldon; 8 grandchildren, Tyler De Jong, Justin Ulrich, Parker and Lexy Ulrich, Lindsay Jensen, Hannah, Brianna and Chelsey Lancour; a sister, Eunice Danielson of Humboldt, Iowa; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Dorothy Zinnel and Fern Ulrich in infancy; 7 brothers, Stew, Herb, Max, Stan, John, Jerry and a baby brother at birth.
