Dorothy Tremmel, age 93, of LeMars, Iowa, formerly of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society in LeMars, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 9, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheldon, Iowa. Father Richard Riese officiating. Burial to follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation will Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Catholic Daughters of America Rosary at 5:00 P.M. Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. at Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon. Dorothy Marie Tremmel was born on December 23, 1923 in Sheldon, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and Emma (Sallee) Kuiper. She grew up in Sheldon, where she attended and graduated from Sheldon High School. She worked as a dental assistant for seven years before she was united in marriage to Edwin Tremmel of Ashton, Iowa, on May 25, 1948 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheldon. Dorothy and Ed lived in Sheldon, where Dorothy was a homemaker. She later worked at a bakery and then as a teacher's aide for 11 years. Edwin passed away on July 25, 1979. Dorothy was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheldon, where she was involved in Catholic Daughters and St. Patrick's Guild. She was also a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Dorothy received the Volunteer of the Year Award after many years of faithful service as a hospice and nursing home volunteer. She loved to spend time with her family, play with the grandkids and go fishing up north. She also enjoyed growing flowers, playing cards, cooking and baking. She moved to Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars in 2008, where she passed away on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017. Those left to cherish her memory are her six children, John (Mona) Tremmel of Sioux City, Iowa; James (Pat) Tremmel of Milford, Nebraska; Michael Tremmel of Portland, Oregon; Joseph Tremmel of Clear Lake, Iowa; Mary (Jay) Toel of Le Mars, Iowa; Charles Tremmel of Plainview, Nebraska; daughters-in-law, Kathy Tremmel of Ashburn, Virginia, and Brenda Tremmel of Sheldon, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; son, Thomas Tremmel; infant grandson, Michael; her parents; brother, James (Virginia) Kuiper; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
