DOROTHY R. DYKSTRA
Dorothy Ruth Dykstra passed away peacefully early Thursday morning on October 26, 2016 reaching the age of 94 years, 3 months and 22 days. She was born in Erie, PA, the daughter of Thomas Haynes Craig and Arsetta Craig, the oldest of three children. She married Gerald G. Dykstra with whom she had two children, Marilyn Jean Dykstra and Priscilla Ruth Cole.
Dorothy faithfully followed her husband throughout his career in the ministry, living in Clymer, NY; Owasco, NY; Schenectady, NY; Primghar, IA; and Lawton, OK, before they finally retired in Primghar, IA. She was active in the Reformed Church in America, teaching Sunday School, directing a girls group, and attending womens circle meetings and the biannual womens conventions. Her kindness touched many lives. She loved to do crafts, sew, garden, cook, and read. She taught herself to play the piano, violin, and viola. She passed on these passions to her daughters and grandchildren. She reveled in telling stories about her youth to her daughters and grandchildren. She told many stories about adventures with her beloved brother, Thomas R. Craig, who was killed in Italy in WWII. Now she has gone to join him, along with her parents and sister, Priscilla Joan Craig.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters with their husbands, and her dearly loved grandchildren, Noah and Fernanda Van Atta.
