DOROTHY J. FISCHER

Dorothy Jean Fischer, the daughter of Emil and Elsie (Langholz) Koch was born August 5, 1932 on the family farm near Paullina, Iowa. She received her education in Paullina, then to a country school and high school at Larrabee, Iowa. On December 10, 1950, she was united in marriage to Arnold Carlson at the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina. To this union four children were born; Doug, Denny, Steve and Deb. The couple farmed northwest of Paullina where Dorothy was considered Arnolds “right hand man”. Arnold preceded her in death on October 6, 1971. On January 5, 1974, she was united in marriage to Marlin Fischer at Oakdale Evangelical Free Church in rural Meriden, Iowa. To this union one daughter, Kimberley Ann was born. The couple made their home in Calumet and Marlin preceded her in death on March 2, 1996 in Cherokee, Iowa. Dorothy was employed as nurse’s aid at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee and later as a dietary cook at the Sutherland Care Center. Dorothy entered the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley in August of 1998. She passed away there on Saturday, September 3, 2011 reaching the age of 79 years and 28 days.
She attended the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church in rural Meriden, and enjoyed playing cards, gardening, crafts and embroidering. She was known as an amazing cook.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her children, Douglas and his wife, Sandi Carlson of Orange City Iowa; Steven and his wife, Donita Carlson of Sutherland, Iowa; Kimberley Fischer of Sheldon, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Jane Carlson of Granger, Indiana and a son-in-law David Orthmann of Sutherland, Iowa; also 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, step children, Dianna, Barbara, Sandra, Douglas and Valerie. She is also survived by a sister and her husband, Mary Ann and Donald Kuehl of Calumet and a brother, Donald Koch in Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Dennis Carlson; a daughter, Deborah Orthmann; her parents and sister-in-law, Dorothy Koch.
