DOROTHY HICKS
Dorothy Hicks, the daughter of Dick and Phoebe (Graves) Alberts, was born on June 8, 1925 in Sibley, Illinois. She received her education and graduated from Ocheyedan High School. On July 24, 1946, she was united in marriage to Darold Hicks at Dorothy’s parent’s home in Ocheyedan, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple settled on the family farm south of Gaza, Iowa. They farmed for many years until Darold’s retirement. In their retirement, they still made their home on the farm. Dorothy remained on the farm after Darold’s death on October 7, 1995. Dorothy passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar, reaching the age of 88 years, 4 months and 14 days.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina. She enjoyed quilting, traveling, fishing, and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her three children, Marilyn Summers of Primghar; Kathryn Jones and Ken and his wife, Carolyn Hicks both of Spencer; Iowa; four grandchildren, Heather and her husband, Mike Sienkiewicz, Nichole and her husband, Steve Vennare, Leighton Jones and Christine and her husband, Temi Otaniyi; eight great grandchildren, Luke and Mikaela Sienkiewicz, Isabella, Courtney, Emily and Nicholas Vennare, Temi Jr. and Kore Otaniyi; one brother, Eugene and his wife, Donna Alberts of Rogers, Arkansas; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters and four brothers.
