Donna Kamies

Donna Kamies, age 84, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon. Graveside Services will be Friday, May 1, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Rev. Paul Van Maaren officiating. Donna Mae Kamies was born on July 6, 1935 in Ashton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry and Viola (Grave) Pomerenke. She lived her youth by Ashton on a farm and attended school in Ashton, graduating from high school in 1953. She was united in marriage to John Kamies, Jr. of Sheldon, Iowa on September 10, 1954 in Ashton. They lived in Sheldon where Donna worked as a telephone operator for 3 years and then assisted her husband, John, with their business Kamies Plumbing and Heating. John passed away on October 2, 2009. Donna continued to help her son, Dave, with the business until 2016, taking care of the accounting and front desk. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Donna enjoyed going to her children's and grandchildren's athletic events from high school to college. She was especially a basketball fan. She also enjoyed playing any type of cards, going out for breakfast, being with her friends, and family gatherings. The day before her stroke, she was able to visit with all of her grandkids and great-grandkids, through skype, and had a great time. She passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. Those left to cherish her memories are her 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Bradley and Jan Kamies of Spirit Lake, IA, Jeffrey and Cheryl Kamies of Atlantic, IA, Dave Kamies of Sheldon, IA, Mark and Krisan Kamies of Nixa, MO; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, LaVerle and Joan Pomerenke of Spirit Lake, IA; and sister-in-law, Marie Pomerenke of Sheldon, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kamies, Jr.; 3 brothers, Bob Pomerenke, Dennis Pomerenke, and Jerry Pomerenke.
