DONALD D. KLAAHSEN
Donald Dale Klaahsen, the son of Harlan Wayne and Chyrl Joan (Sheets) Klaahsen was born April 27, 1950 in Sibley, Iowa. He attended school in Sheldon graduating from Sheldon High School in 1968. He then attended Barber College in El Paso, Texas. Don enlisted in the United States Navy on December 30, 1969 and served his country for 20 years, 2 months and 2 days. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer on February 28, 1990. On October 27, 1972, he was united in marriage to Julie Kaye Proehl in Vallejo, California. After his retirement from the Navy the couple moved to Primghar where he established Dons Barber Shop. He was also employed at different jobs most recently working at Den Hartog Industries in Hospers, Iowa. Don passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Sanford Health Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 65 years, 2 months and 18 days.
He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar. He enjoyed spending time with his family, going to the Lakes, woodworking, fishing, boating, gardening and riding his motorcycle.
Don leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Julie of Primghar; a son and his wife, Ryan and Brandie Klaahsen of Omaha, Nebraska; a daughter and her husband, Jaime and Kevin Kelleher of Primghar; a grandson, Chance Klaahsen; Kevins children: Miranda, Bryce and Brytton and his grandson, Karson Kelleher; his father and his wife, Harland W. and Dottie Klaahsen of Sun City, Arizona; three sisters, Kathleen Burinskas of Carlsbad, California; Marlene Klaahsen Childs and her husband, Rodney of Peoria, Arizona and Wanda McFarland of Surprise, Arizona; also brother and sister-in laws; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Chyrl.
