DONALD D. ANDERSEN
Donald Duane Andersen, the son of Lawrence and Leona (Sinema) Andersen, was born May 7, 1935 in Alta, Iowa. He was raised around the Sheldon and Sanborn area and graduated from the Sanborn High School in 1953. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1957 – 1961 when he was honorably discharged. Don was united in marriage to Linda Bannick on February 14, 1970 in Ashton, Iowa. They made their home in Sheldon where Don worked at various auto dealerships as an automotive technician. He also had his own business in Sanborn for a year and a half and later worked for Bernie Roetman Tiling in Sheldon. In 1980, the couple moved to Orange City where they lived for 10 years. While living in Orange City, he worked for Orange City Motors and Krull Construction and was janitor at Faith Lutheran Church. In 1990, they moved back to Sheldon where he was employed at Ron Drenkow Motors and before his retirement at Demco in Boyden where he worked for nine years. In his retirement he worked for White Wolf Web, Perkins Office Supply and Lewis Drug doing deliveries. He passed away Monday, April 20, 2009 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center after being diagnosed with cancer in December of 2008 and other health problems from his diabetes, reaching the age of 73 years, 11 months and 13 days.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sheldon and was active in Bible study and loved serving coffee for fellowship. He was active in the American Legion having served as the Commander of the McGlothlen- Cowie Post #145 of Sheldon
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 39 years, Linda of Sheldon; a son, Bill Andersen of Le Mars, Iowa; also other relatives and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David.
