It is with both sadness and great blessing that our mother, Dolores Lorraine Laue, entered the gates of heaven on November 11,2023. She is now singing with the angels and rejoicing with our dad.
Mom was born June 2,1935 in Ayrshire, IA to Bertha (Mangold) and Herbert Mohr. She grew up in a loving home with her parents and four siblings. In 1953 she graduated from Silver Lake High School, where she was the valedictorian. She went on to Buena Vista College and earned her two-year teaching certificate. In 1953, she met Norman Laue at the Cobblestone Ballroom in Storm Lake, IA. This would be the first of many dances they would share during their marriage. Mom and Dad were married December 27, 1955. After their wedding they moved to the Seattle area until Dad was discharged from the army in 1957. They then returned to a farm outside of Paullina, IA and started their family. Mom taught kindergarten and preschool for almost 40 years. She often told us that she enjoyed every day with those kids. She also taught Sunday school and bible school and she and Dad were members of Pairs and Spares at church. Mom’s faith was important to her and she was a member of Siloam, then Zion Lutheran Church her entire adult life. Mom loved to go fishing with Dad, traveling, shopping and going to the grandkid’s activities. She was the ultimate Grandma and enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, baking sugar cookies and taking time to read stories and play with them.
Mom and Dad’s marriage was a testament to unfailing love and devotion. They were married for 66 years until Dad’s passing on August 9,2021. They brought three children into this world, Steve, Joni and Julie. Mom was a wonderful mother and grandmother to her children, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include Steve (Lorie) Laue of Castle Rock Colorado, Joni (Paul Weinstock) Manske of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Julie (Randy) Paulsen of Paullina, IA.
Grandchildren include Mike Laue, Megan (Kory) Winsor, Tim (Ashley) Paulsen, Mark Manske, Calvin Laue, Jill (Mitchell) Van Otterloo and Adam (Kayla) Paulsen. Great grandchildren include Blaire, Dane, Conrad, Rhett, Reese, Ryklyn; Elliana, Everleigh, Eden, Emily and Lane. Also mourning her passing are her brother, Harley (Ruby) Mohr, brother-in-law Keith Laue and sister-in-law Marilyn Lundquist along with many friends, nieces and nephews.
Mom’s passing will leave a huge void in our lives, but we are rejoicing she has met her Lord, Jesus Christ and that her and Dad are fishing and dancing in heaven.
Well done, good and faithful servant.
All of our love always, Steve, Joni and Julie
