DEVADA DEE M. DIRKSEN
Devada Marie Dirksen, the daughter of Roy and Darlene (Hollister) Warnke was born October 23, 1947 in Sioux City, Iowa. She grew up in Paullina and attended school in Paullina and graduated from Paullina High School in 1966. She went on to attend Beauty school in Sioux City. In 1969 she was united in marriage to William Hickman. The family made their home in Clay Center, Kansas. Devada returned with her daughters to Paullina to make their home in 1983. On April 29, 1989 she was united in marriage to Eugene Dirksen at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. After their marriage the couple settled in Spencer. She was employed in Spencer as a care giver for all ages and the last several years before she retired in 2010, worked at the River View Terrace in Spencer. Devada passed away at her home in Spencer on Saturday March 15, 2014 reaching the age of 66 years 4 months and 22 days.
She was baptized on March 13, 1949 and later confirmed on June 10, 1962 and while living in Paullina attended the Zion Lutheran Church. Family was important to her in spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, camping and sitting around the camp fire, cooking and gardening.
Devada leaves to cherish her memory her husband Gene of Spencer, four daughters Deanna and her husband Brian Hohbach of Paullina; Darcy and her husband Matthew Donnay of Gaylord, Minnesota; Lisa and her husband Josh Seaman of Hartley and Sarah Hickman and her significant other Jeremy Frey of Spencer; two step children Melissa and her husband Bryon Dutton and Michael and his wife Mindy Dirksen all of Elkhart, Iowa; 17 grandchildren and 2 grand babies on the way; her sister and her husband Ginger and James Scherer of Altoona, Iowa also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Darlene.
