DENNIS D. GEERDES
Dennis Duane Geerdes was born November 1, 1942 in Hartley, Iowa, the son of John G. and Annetta (Gerdes) Geerdes. Dennis received his education in the Primghar schools where he ran track and played football. Dennis and Catheryn Vancil were married March 16, 1968 in Nashville, Illinois. Their married life was spent in Primghar. Through 4-H Dennis became involved with registered Shorthorn Cattle and Chester White Hogs. He served on the board of the Northwest Iowa Shorthorn Association. With his father, he raised registered Chester Whites and was also a member of the National Chester White Association. He was a member of the Center Farmers 4-H Club in his youth and later became their leader. Dennis enjoyed seeing his seven grandsons, showing animals at fairs, driving the countryside and visiting with friends and family. He passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Crestridge Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa reaching the age of 71 years, 9 months and 16 days.
Dennis attended Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar where he was a baptized and confirmed member for many years.
Left to honor his memory are his mother, Annetta Geerdes of Sanborn, IA; his wife, Catheryn Geerdes of Primghar; son, Scott (Stephani) Geerdes and their sons, Tyson, Ethan, and Preston all of Fairmont, Minnesota; a daughter, Dr. Kay Lynn (Brett) Alka and their sons, Wyatt, Noah, Dalton and Dain of Bellmont, Illinois; a sister, Beverly Reverts and her husband, Alvin of Hartley, Iowa; sisters-in-law include, Dorothy (Joel) McCleland of Johnston City, Illinois; Marna (Don) Sawyer of Metropolis, Illinois; a brother-in-law, Timothy (Rebecca) Vancil of Indianapolis, Indiana; six grand nieces, eight grand nephews and one great nephew and great niece, also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father, John G. Geerdes.
