     Denise R. Kohn, age 67, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Her services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 10, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheldon, Iowa wit Fr. Siby Punnoose ~ Officiating.

     Burial will be in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Sheldon.

     Visitation with the family present will be on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 PM at the funeral home.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sanford Worthington Cancer Center.

 Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

     Denise Renea Kohn the daughter of Donald and Norma (Tremmel) Niichel was born July 16, 1957 in Sheldon, Iowa. She grew-up in Ashton where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School until the 8th grade and then graduated from Sheldon High School in 1975. After high school Denise started working as a secretary for Nissen Brothers, then Banner Beef, then Packerland of Hospers for 26 years, she then worked for Van Wyk Trucking in Sheldon until her retirement in September 0f 2024. Denise was united in marriage to Randy Kohn on September 8, 1984 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton, Iowa and the couple made their home in Sheldon. Denise passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 67 years, 5 months and 21 days.

     She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and of the Ladies Guild in Sheldon, she enjoyed going for motorcycle rides with her husband, playing cards, but most of all just spending time with her family and friends.

     Denise is survived by her husband Randy; her 5 siblings, Jerry (Shelli) Niichel of Sanborn, Iowa; Donita (Dan) Burrows of Tucson, Arizona; Deb (Mike) Hatting of Ashton, Iowa; Jim (Nancy) Niichel of Orange City, Iowa and Steve Niichel of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and Randy’s siblings, Tim (Sharon) Kohn of Ashton, Iowa; Natalie (Bruce) Anderson of Lakewood, Colorado; Jeff (Deb) Kohn of Harris, Iowa and Mary (Scott) Kennedy of Kingsley, Iowa and other nieces and nephews, relative and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws and a brother-in-law, Kimbal Rook.
