DAVID W. MEYER
David Wayne Meyer, the son of Norman and Nellie (Martin) Meyer was born February 11, 1947 in Primghar, Iowa. He received his education at St. John Lutheran School in Germantown and later graduated from Paullina High School in 1965. He worked with his father at Meyer Trucking and assumed the total operation in 1971. On April 7, 1973, he was united in marriage to Jeanne Van Dyke at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. After their marriage the couple settled in Germantown, where he continued to operate Meyer Trucking until 1984. The couple moved to Archer in 1985, where he operated the CO-OP Oil Station until 1996, when he went to work for Data-Dimensions as a driver until 2002. He then worked for O’Brien County, out of the Archer Shop until ill health forced his retirement. He passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, reaching the age of 62 years, 10 months and 13 days.
He was baptized on April 3, 1947 and later confirmed on March 26, 1961 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. He was a member of the Archer Fire Department and had served as Chief for 25 years. He was a First Responder and later a driver of the Archer Ambulance Team. He had been a member of the O’Brien County Medical Assistance Board and served on the Archer Community Center Board. He enjoyed camping, fishing, the outdoors and woodworking. Family was always important to David.
David is survived by his wife, Jeanne Meyer of Archer; two sons and their wives, Ryan and Linda Meyer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Steven and Nadine Meyer of Hanley Falls, Minnesota; a grandson, Steven Meyer of Hanley Falls, Minnesota; four sisters, Becky Clark of Sheldon, Iowa; Kris Halbur of Germantown, Iowa; Bonnie Kabrick of Spencer, Iowa and Vickie and her husband, Bob Ruden of Marcus, Iowa; also nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Tim Kabrick.
