DAVID E. JACOBSMA
David Edlin Jacobsma, the son of Henry and Tracy (Van Zan Bergen) Jacobsma, was born February 7, 1934 in Hospers, Iowa. He attended school in Boyden and graduated from Boyden High School in 1952. Dave served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 - 1955. After his discharge from the service he returned home and was united in marriage to Marilyn E. Fylstra on November 18, 1955 in Hull, Iowa, the couple made their home in Boyden. Dave worked as a salesman for Standard Oil for 25 years; he lived in Sheldon and Denison, Iowa, Wayne, Nebraska, Storm Lake, Humboldt and Okoboji, Iowa. Dave also worked as an Insurance Broker for 25 years. He moved to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1980 and in 1992, they moved to Doon, Iowa. Dave moved to Sioux City after the death by his wife, Marilyn on July 8, 2009. He passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City, Iowa, reaching the age of 76 years, 11 months and 22 days.
Dave was a member of the United Methodist Church. He was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Masonic Shriners, and Kiwanis. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, fishing, hunting, golfing, reading and exercising.
Dave is survived by his two daughters, Peggy Anson of Sloan, Iowa and Patricia and her husband, Pete Johnson of Independence, Missouri; five grandchildren, David Anson of Tampa, FL; Heather Weiand of Sioux City, IA; John Anson Jr. of Germany; Alexandria Todd of Sioux City, IA and Maxwell Johnson of Independence, MO; four great-grandchildren, Faith, Payton and Paige Weiand and Timothy Anson; one sister and her husband, Ruth and Donald DeVries of San Jose, CA; and other relative and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, and his parents.
