Dave Schmidt, age 74, of Calumet who passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at MercyOne Primghar Medical.

Visitation with family present will be from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.

There will be no formal service and burial will be at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.

DAVID L. SCHMIDT

David (Dave) Lawrence Schmidt was born in Primghar, Iowa on October 14, 1946, to Gerald and Ardine (Vogt) Schmidt. Dave passed away on October 9, 2021, five days before his 75th birthday. He fought cancer for a year and one month and bragged that he was only sick one day.
Dave learned carpentry from his dad and was good at it. Dave loved gardening, playing cards, music, and talking. Taking time to help others brought joy to him. He was active in supporting his community. Dave was a council member for the City of Calumet for many years, a member of the SRC in Sutherland, and on the board of O’Brien County Economic Development Corporation.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jane (Kammerer) and three stepchildren, Faith Monen, Amanda (Lee) Verdoorn, Lee (Daisy) Nieuwenhuis. Eight step grandchildren, Dylan Monen, Tristan and Jamin Verdoorn, Kara, Cameron, Emmett, Owen, and Penny Nieuwenhuis. One step great grandson, Felix Monen. He was survived by his sister, Julie (Merf) Eaton and their children, Angie and Lori, brother, Gene (Shelley Maas) Schmidt and their children, Taylor, Max, and Zoe. Dave was also survived by his mother-in-law, Nell Kammerer of Sutherland, Iowa, brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom (Mary Jo) Kammerer of Des Moines, Brad (Denice) Kammerer of Newnan, Georgia and Ann Vander Plaats of Sutherland, Iowa. Also, other nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, and several aunts and uncles.
