DARRELL P. PETERS
Darrell Paul Peters, the son of Emil and Stella (Gosch) Peters, was born August 11, 1927 in Hartley, Iowa. He received his education in country school and later graduated from Hartley High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Iowa. On September 21, 1947, he was united in marriage to Berneice Appeldorn at her parent’s home in Paullina. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Paullina area and Darrell started his business of Peters Auctioneering, Real Estate and Insurance business. The couple moved to Paullina in 1981 and Darrell retired in 1985. In his retirement years he worked as a crop hail adjustor. The couple spent the winter months in Tucson, Arizona with their daughter, Mary Jo and their granddaughter, Brooke helping them with the Ice Cream Store. He passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2006, reaching the age of 78 years and 5 months.
He was baptized as a child and later confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hartley, Iowa; he was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina and the Russell West Post of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and all sports.
Darrell leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Berneice of Paullina; a son, Dale and his wife, Fran Peters of Lake Park, Iowa; one daughter, Mary Jo Jensen of Tucson, Arizona; three grandchildren, Amy Schodrow, Ashley Fricton and Brooke Jensen; three great-grandchildren, Makenzie Fricton, Tyler and Nicole Schodrow; a sister, Joyce Jenkins of Hartley, Iowa and a brother, Dale “Buzz” and his wife, Marilyn Peters of Hartley, Iowa; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Warren Jenkins.
