Darlene Ann Richter, the daughter of Herbert and Ruth (Mews) Kniese, was born January 31, 1932 in Baker Township near Granville, Iowa. She received her education in a country school in Baker Township, later graduating from Paullina High School in 1950 as the class Valedictorian. On September 18, 1950, she was united in marriage to Donald “Red” Richter at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. After their marriage the couple settled on a farm a quarter mile east of Germantown, where they farmed for many years. Darlene worked for Phil Dice and his catering service in Paullina. The couple retired from farming and spent their retirement years on the farm. Her husband preceded her in death on March 23, 2002 in Paullina. Darlene remained on the family farm and passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the home of her son in Paullina, reaching the age of 74 years, 2 months and 3 days.
She was baptized on March 27, 1932 at the Zion Lutheran Church Parsonage in Paullina and later confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina on June 9, 1946 and was currently a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, flowers, canning, cooking, the family farm and having coffee with her Germantown friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, her dog, Simone and her cats.
Darlene leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Donnette and her husband, Wilbur Meyer of Paullina; a son and his wife, David and Cindy Richter of Paullina; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Nicole, Natalie, Austin, Andrew and Adam; one great-granddaughter, Tayler; a sister, Lorna and her husband, Dr. Bert Louscher of Ft. Myers, FL; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Elaine and Glen Waggoner of Sutherland and JoAnne and Wilbur Kaiser of Marcus; also a host of other relatives and many friends.
