DANIEL “DAN” VAN DYK

Daniel “Dan” Van Dyk, the son of John and Wimke (Huls) Van Dyk was born July 4, 1924 in the family home in West Holman Township at Sibley, Iowa. He was baptized August 4, 1924 at the Trinity Reformed Church in Sibley, Iowa. In 1932, he moved with his family to rural Melvin, Iowa, where he received his education. He was confirmed on March 20, 1977 at St. John Lutheran church. On February 16, 1949, Dan was united in marriage to June Dawn Egdorf at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hull, Iowa. To this union were born 1 son, Eldon and 2 daughters, Sheryl and Sandra. They made their home in Boyden for the past 59 years. During his working life, Dan worked for Bleasdel’s Hardware in Boyden; drove a milk truck for the Boyden Creamery. He retired in 1986, from the Farmers Co-op Elevator in Boyden, Iowa where he drove a feed truck and operated the feed mill for 25 years. After his retirement, Dan enjoyed driving for Sudenga Industries. He passed away at his residence in Boyden, Iowa on Friday, September 12, 2008, reaching the age of 84 years, 2 months and 8 days.
He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in rural Boyden where he had served as a trustee on the church council. Dan enjoyed fishing, woodworking and having a good card game with his family, and celebrating his birthday’s with the family at Eastside Acres at Round Lake, Minnesota.
Dan is survived by his wife, June of 59 years of Boyden, Iowa; one son, Eldon and his wife, Musch of Boyden; two daughters, Sheryl and her husband, Larry Kruse of Boyden; Sandra and her husband, Robert “Bert” Goeringer of Hull, Iowa; six grandchildren, April (Scott) Heimes, Jessica Van Dyk, Robin (Charles) Sjogren, Ryan (Anna) Kruse, Chad (Alana) Goeringer and Travis Goeringer; eight great-grandchildren, Owen and Nolan Heimes, Holden and Zoey Sjogren, Jakob and Mollie Kruse, Chase and Alyssa Goeringer; three brothers, John and Delores Van Dyk of Chili, Wisconsin; George Van Dyk of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin and Allen (Lila) Van Dyk of Sibley, Iowa; and an aunt, Mrs. John Huls Sr. of Sibley, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Anna Ihnken and three brothers, Henry and Kobus Van Dyk and Daniel in infancy.
