Funeral services for Daniel W. Roethler, age 76, of Archer who passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at St. Lukes Unity Point Hospital in Sioux City. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, March 31, 2025, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Primghar with Father Tim Hogan, officiating.

Burial with military honors will be at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina.

Daniel William Roethler, the son of Kenneth Wayne and Margaret Marcella (Wentworth) Roethler, was born on April 26, 1948, in LeMars, Iowa. He received his education from Larrabee and graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee, Iowa in 1967. Daniel was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Flaugh on September 14, 1968, in Pasquotank County in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He enlisted in the United States Navy on September 14, 1967, and was honorably discharged on September 30, 1987. During his Naval career he served as a Boiler Technician Chief serving on seven different naval ships during his career. He was stationed in Norfolk for 12 years, and was transferred to Great Lakes Naval Base Training Center as an instructor and he moved Barb and his children to Paullina while he finished his last three years at San Diego Naval Base, also where he did his boot camp. After he was honorably discharged in 1987, Dan and Barb moved to Sergeant Bluff for three years and then to Salix, Iowa for twenty-one years and Dan began his career at Gelita USA in Sergeant Bluff as a boiler operator and production for Pharmaceutical grade medicine coatings until his retirement in April of 2010. After his retirement in 2010 they wintered in North Carolina until 2020, and the couple made their home on the acreage by Archer. Dan passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at St. Lukes Unity Point Hospital in Sioux City, reaching the age of 76 years, 10 months and 29 days.
Dan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, antique cars, word searches, antiquing, car shows and being outside. He was a world traveler with the Navy and also enjoyed traveling with Barb.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Barb; children and their spouses, William “Bill” Roethler and Shane Malmberg of Sioux City, Iowa, Linda and Jeff Towe of Paullina, and Patricia and James Lafrentz of Galva, Iowa; grandchildren, Colby, Rosemarie (Jeff), Kenneth (Katelyn), Kayla, Savanna and Alex; one great grandchild, Wynonna; siblings, Connie Duke (Ray Kearns) of Quimby, John (Arlene) Roethler of Sioux City, Donald “Doc” (Roxan) Roethler of Cherokee, Kathy Good of Meriden, and Gerald “Jerry” (Tammy) Roethler of Larrabee; brother and sister-in-law, Rich James and Linda Roethler; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Margaret Roethler, sister, MaryAnne James, brother, James Roethler and brother-in-law, Ron Good.
