DALE L. BRUNK
Dale Lester Brunk, the son of Fred John and Anna (Lutz) Brunk, was born November 29, 1922 on the family farm near Sheldon. He received his education in a country school near Sheldon. Dale worked on the family farm, was self-employed in carpentry, and also employed at the Sheldon Post Office. Dale was united in marriage to Neva Jean Vander Hamm on November 22, 1944 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon. The couple made their home on the family farm near Sheldon. Neva preceded him in death on August 18, 1956. On October 9, 1965, Dale married Donna L. (Roelofs) Haroldson at the American Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN. Dale and Donna made their home in Sheldon. Dale retired from the United States Postal Service in 1987. Donna preceded him in death on December 1, 2006. Dale became a resident of Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon (Dec.’06-Dec.’08) then resided at Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn. Dale passed away on Monday, February 22, 2010, at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, IA, reaching the age of 87 years, 2 months and 25 days.
He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Sheldon, church council, cemetery committee, and also Kiwanis. He enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, refinishing furniture, and sunning in Arizona during the winters.
Dale is survived by his three daughters; Sharon and her husband, Warren Wilson of Storm Lake, IA; Deb and her husband, Larry Den Hartog of Sheldon, IA; Della and her husband, M.J. (Smiley) Nordstrom of Minneapolis, MN; and one son, Tom and his wife, Brenda Brunk of Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren, Rhonda and her husband, Brad Hyde; Shane Wilson and his fiancée, Sue Velner; Wade DenHartog; Thad and his wife, Jennifer DenHartog; Cpl.’s Jay and Robb Nordstrom; Blake and his wife, Danielle Brunk; Jonathan and Alec Brunk; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Kyle Swenson; Joshua and his wife, Toni Hyde; Jace Hyde; Cooper and Kamryn DenHartog; a brother, Paul Brunk and friend, Darlene Gehl of Fulda, MN; a sister, Lois and her husband, Norman Krebs of Houston, TX; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Neva Jean Brunk (12 years of marriage) and Donna L. Brunk (41 years of marriage); his parents, a sister, Arleen and her husband, Lester Hansen; a sister-in-law, Ruth Brunk and a son-in-law, Rich Stofferan.
