DALE A. WESTRA

Dale Anthon Westra, the son of Louis and Sadie (Kammenga) Westra was born December 8, 1925 in Pease, Minnesota. He moved with his family to Sheldon, where he received his education in Sheldon schools. He entered the United States Army; serving during World War II. On June 21, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marie Boerhave in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple spent their entire married life living in Sheldon. Dale was employed as a salesman at Continental Baking, Sunshine Biscuit and for many years was employed at Sheldon Monument. In his retirement he drove bus for the Sheldon School. The couple was able to spend 20 winters in Arizona. He passed away at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa, reaching the age of 80 years, 1 month and 11 days.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, where he had served as vice-president of the Consistory, as an Elder, taught Sunday school and Catechism and had sang in the church choir for many years. Dale served on the Sheldon City Cemetery board for a number of years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, model railroading, traveling, woodworking and especially spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory, his wife, Marie of Sheldon; three children, David and his wife, Sandra Westra of LeMars, Iowa; Pamela and her husband, Bob Haak of Spencer, Iowa; Douglas and his wife, Gina Westra of Pine Island, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Elliot and his wife, Leah Westra; Matt and his wife, Tricia Haak; Natalie and her husband, Jay Eidsness; John Haak; Kelli Westra; Brian Haak and Julieann Westra; a great-grandson, Adam; also other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Andrew.
