Corrine Joyce (Fiddelke) Hohbach was born June 12, 1936, to Albert and Kathe (Meyer) Fiddelke. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa, and graduated from Paullina High School in 1954. After HS graduation she attended the National Business School in Sioux City, IA, and then worked for Joe Rosenthal and Sons as a bookkeeper. In March of 1956 she was united in marriage to Junior Hohbach, making their home on a farm northwest of Paullina where they raised four children Cheryl, Linda, Michael and Susan. Corrine was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown and was active in Ladies Aid and the quilt group for missions. In 1985 she went to work at Alfs Manufacturing as a machine operator until she retired in October of 1999. They built their retirement home in Paullina on West Grand in 1996 enjoying the traffic on Hwy 10 from their porch. When Junior moved to Prairie View Nursing home in Sanborn in July of 2019, Corrine soon followed moving to independent living at Prairie View Manor so they could easily spend time together.
Through the years Corrine enjoyed growing roses, Friendship Bible studies, baking, playing cards, knitting, quilting and embroidering. Her career at Alfs prompted her to make denim quilts for every grand and great grandchild. She also gifted many pieced quilts, spending long hours at her quilt frame. Anyone who stopped by the house could count on a pan of bars, a pie or cookies waiting for them. Embroidery became her go to hobby in her later years, stitching and gifting hundreds of dishtowels to family, friends and fundraisers.
In late 2023 she moved to Prairie View Nursing Home where she spent her days embroidering towels for the staff. She had a special gift for finishing every project she started, leaving only a few unstitched towels at the time of her passing at Prairie View on Saturday, October 5, 2024, reaching the age of 88 years, 3 months and 23 days. We are grateful for the wonderful care she received from the staff during her time at Prairie View and for all who visited her and sent cards.
Corrine will be remembered by her children Cheryl (Marlin) Sjaarda, Paullina, IA, Linda Holter (Tim Pfeiffer), Chesterfield, MO, Michael (Michelle) Hohbach, Paullina, IA, and Susan (Kevin) Walker, Greensboro, NC; grandchildren Chad (Lindsey) Sjaarda, Eric (Andrea) Sjaarda, Grant (Stephanie) Sjaarda, Maggie Holter (Reza Farokhian), Max (Lia) Holter, Leshia Woodford, Shonna Keogh, Nichole (Daniel) Jacobs, Jacob (Emily) Walker, Michael Walker and great grandchildren Oliver, Greta, Alannah, Taylor, Mason, Gauge, Austin, Ella, James, Naomi, Anna, Emercyn, Jack, Sydney, Kaylee (Thomas), and Brenna. She is also survived by Sisters-in-law Jo Fiddelke, Jackie Wersinger and Karen Hohbach and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Junior Hohbach, her parents, and brother, Verdis Fiddelke.
