Funeral Services for Clarence Wolthuizen, age 92, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa. His Funeral Service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Rev. Paul Van Maaren ~ Officiating.
Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa with military honors by McGlothlen-Cowie Post 145 of the Sheldon American Legion.
Visitation will be after 3 P.M. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 with the family present from 5 – 7 P.M. Wednesday at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, Iowa.
Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Clarence Wolthuizen, the son of Klaas and Irene (Dekker) Wolthuizen, was born May 27, 1931, in Sheldon, Iowa. Clarence received his education in a country school where he graduated from the 8th grade. He was called into service, serving in the Army from 1952 to 1954, and was stationed in Germany. While on leave, he was able to visit relatives in the Netherlands. On February 9, 1955, he was united in marriage to Helen Nieuwendorp at the Frist Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa. The two were married for nearly 64 years before she passed away in 2019. After he and Helen were married, they farmed for three years in Appleton, Minnesota, where they also welcomed their daughter Cheryl. Shortly after, the couple moved back to the family farm near Sheldon where they farmed and intermittently raised hogs and sheep. During this time, they also welcome their son Robert and their daughter Dianne. After 35 years, they moved into Sheldon and transitioned into retirement. Clarence passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care Facility reaching the age of 92 years and 8 months.
Clarence was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and tractors, driving them in local parades and participating in car shows. After retirement he continued to spend much of his time at the farm. He enjoyed woodworking which included making windmills and Dutch wooden tulips. He also enjoyed visiting with his children, grandchildren, and especially his great-grandchildren.
Clarence is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Wolthuizen of Sheldon and daughter-in-law, Marlys Wolthuizen of Sheldon. He was a grandfather to five grandchildren, Beth (Ryan) Oltmans of Canton, SD; Clint (Heidi) Wolthuizen of Inwood, IA; Ann (Kevin) Hofman of Sanborn, IA; Elise (Tyler) Drenkow of Sheldon, IA and Dana (Kris) Van Gent of Pella, IA. Clarence was a great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren, Liam, Ayla, and Rhett Wolthuizen (Clint & Heidi); Jaxon Hofman (Ann & Kevin); Remington, Piper, Lenora, and Gibson Drenkow (Elise & Tyler) and Porter Van Gent (Dana & Kris). He also leaves behind a host of other family and friends.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; son, Robert; daughter, Dianne; two brothers, John and Andrew and a sister, Leona Hinrichs.
