CLARA SCHOLTEN
Clara Scholten, the daughter of Arie and Jennie (Kooiker) Van Der Weide was born September 20, 1933 on a farm near Boyden, Iowa. She received her education in a country school Capel Township near Boyden and graduated from the Sioux Center High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to George Scholten on June 6, 1958 on her parent’s farm near Boyden. Clara had worked at the Boyden Café, King’s Corner Café and Alf’s Manufacturing in Sheldon; and from 1976 – 1989 she had worked for the Sioux Center Hospital. Clara passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at her home near Doon, Iowa reaching the age of 76 years, 6 months and 11 days.
Clara was a member of the Philadelphia Church of God and a past member of the Worldwide Church of God. She enjoyed baking, feeding birds, growing flowers, gardening and taking care of her mother.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 51 years, George of Doon; their five children, Jason and his wife, Diane Scholten of Rock Valley, IA; Randy and his wife, Michelle Scholten of Milaka, MN; Kevin and his wife, Eunice Scholten of Hayward, CA; Yvonne Scholten of Hull, IA and Mary Scholten and her husband, Joel Smith of San Francisco, CA; nine grandchildren, George D., Gregory P., Glen J., Grant M., Joshua, Jacob, Jeromie J., JoAnna P. and Jonathan M.; three great-grandsons, Levi J., Jason C. and Pablo J.; six brothers and sisters and their spouses, Art and Marge Van Der Weide of Dorr, MI; Genevieve and Russ Wickers of Sioux Center, IA; LaVonne & John Van Middendorp of Everson, WA; Audrey & Orville Pluim of Rock Valley, IA; Norm and Ada Van Der Weide of Grand Rapids, MI; Dennis and Nancy Van Der Weide of Boyden, IA; a sister-in-law, Wilma Van Der Weide of Belle Flower, CA; and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Dorothy and a brother-in-law, Harold Vande Weerd; a brother, Willy and a sister-in-law, Glenda Van Der Weide.
