CHYRL J. KLAAHSEN
Chyrl Joan Klaahsen the daughter of Ervis David and Lorraine (Slocum) Sheets was born September 24, 1935 at George, Iowa; and was baptized on July 16, 1939 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Chyrl received her early education in George and as an adult was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George. While working at the Sheldon Hospital, she received her degree in nursing from Western Iowa Tech in Cherokee, Iowa before moving to El Paso, Texas. There she worked in the OB/GYN Department of Providence Memorial Hospital. While in Texas she was also a Past Matron of the Harmony Chapter # 244 of the Order of the Eastern Star and was an active member of the El Minya Court # 46 of The Ladies Shrine in El Paso, Texas.
Upon retiring from nursing, Chyrl spent a few years in Arizona with family before moving to Primghar. She became an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church, participating in the womens afternoon circle, quilting and playing piano. Chyrl had a love of reading, theater and music of all types. Chyrl was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and monthly book club. She especially enjoyed Saturday morning breakfast with Emily and visiting with her good neighbor Dorothy. Chyrl moved to the Primghar Care Center in September of 2012, where she passed away on March 16, 2015 reaching the age of 79 years, 5 months and 22 days.
Chyrl is survived by four children from her marriage to Harlan Klaahsen; Donald (Julie) Klaahsen of Primghar, Iowa, Kathleen Burinskas of Carlsbad, California, Marlene (Rodney) Klaahsen Childs of Peoria, Arizona, Wanda McFarland of Surprise, Arizona; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine DeWeerd of Lancaster, Texas, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
