With heavy hearts, we announce that Christopher “Chris” Alan Johnson passed away on July 8, 2024 in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be held at Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Primghar on Friday, July 12, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Primghar on Saturday, July 13,2024 at 10:30 am. Burial will be at Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland. After the graveside service, relatives and friends are invited to Sweeney's Clubhouse for a time of fellowship.
Born on March 9, 1992, in Cherokee, Iowa, Chris marked each of his 32 years of life with a radiant spirit that formed deep connections with those around him.
In his early life, Chris participated in Scouts where he would eventually achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, embodying their values of loyalty, kindness, bravery, and reverence. It was there that his lifelong love and appreciation for nature began. He hated seeing any part of nature defaced, instead valuing the beauty and purity of the world around him. He spent countless hours exploring the Waterman Creek area, fishing, hiking, and metal detecting (though he never found riches.)
He could often be found immersing himself in the pages of a book or practicing a new instrument. He loved music and learned to play multiple instruments, sometimes even learning a new instrument on his own over the summer because it would make the OABCIG band stronger the following year.
After high school, Chris went on to graduate from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri where he studied Spanish. He spent a semester abroad in Costa Rica where he soaked in the lush terrain and vibrant culture.
In recent years, Chris faced challenges with his mental health, but approached these challenges with the same courage and determination that defined his life. He sought treatment and support, showing immense strength and resilience in his journey.
Chris will be remembered for his deep love for his friends and unwavering loyalty to those he cared for. He adored dog-sitting for Carl, Coco, Barron, and Anuk, treating them with the same warm care and attention he gave to family and friends.
Chris’s legacy is carried on by his beloved mother, Terrie Johnson; his sister, Carrie Scheidel (husband Tony) and their children Isabelle and Liam; his uncle Mark Johnson (wife Deb) and their family; his aunt Marchia Lundquist (husband Levi) and their family; numerous extended cousins; his partner, Jo Fuller; and his many friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bud and Darlene Johnson, and many cherished great aunts and uncles.
