CATHERINE M. FISCHER
Catherine Mary Fischer, the daughter of Michael and Clara (Metzen) Friedrich was born April 3, 1911 on the family farm near Hospers, Iowa. She received her education from St. Anthony’s Catholic School in Hospers, Iowa. Catherine was united in marriage to Anton “Tony” Fischer on January 31, 1934 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hospers, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived on a farm near Hospers, where she worked with her husband. Her husband, Tony preceded her in death on December 24, 1976 in Sheldon. Catherine remained on the home place until 1983 when she moved into Sheldon. Catherine had been a resident of Oak Park Care Center for 5 years. She moved back home where her son and daughter, Leo and Anna cared for her. Catherine passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 97 years, 2 months and 9 days.
Catherine was a past member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hospers and currently was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon, Ladies Guild and the Missionary Society. Her #1 hobby was playing cards; she enjoyed baking, cooking, crocheting, gardening and most of all she enjoyed the company of her grandchildren.
Catherine leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Donald and his wife, Ann Fischer of Pella, Iowa; Leo Fischer of Sheldon, Iowa; and a daughter, Anna Johnson of Sheldon, Iowa; twenty grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; an infant daughter, Mary Agnes; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Pat Fischer; a granddaughter, Sue Marie; her parents, eight sisters and one brother.
