Calvin Lee Sneiderman, the son of Clarence and Lorraine (Sorensen) Sneiderman was born on June 24, 1947, in McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Calvin was born weighing 2lbs., 14ozs, but he was a survivor. He started grade school in Hurley, SD. After 3 years he transferred to the Freeman Training School in South Dakota. While at Freeman he attended classes for half the day and did work activities the rest of the day. At age 16, Calvin transferred to Sioux Falls Vocational School in Sioux Falls, SD, where he received various job training skills. Calvin’s first full-time job was at Kirk’s Restaurant as a dishwasher. After the closing of Kirk’s, he moved on to the Deli at Sunshine Grocery Store as a dishwasher.
During his life-time Calvin enjoyed playing baseball and riding his bike. He would return to Hurley on the weekends and was known as the local lawn mowing expert and the best snow shoveler in town. Some of Calvin’s favorites were watching the New York Yankees, car races at Huset’s and watching old westerns on T.V.
In 1999, Calvin moved to Sheldon, Iowa so he could be closer to family. Calvin had the opportunity to enjoy his niece and nephews and become involved in their school activities. His first job in Sheldon was at the Iron Horse as a part-time dishwasher. Calvin then began his favorite job at Hy-Vee as a “Carry-out Specialist”. Over the years, Calvin enjoyed visiting with all the customers he met while pushing their grocery cart to the car. Calvin was always prompt when showing up to work usually arriving at least an hour early to enjoy a cup of coffee with his fellow workers. He took his job very seriously and enjoyed many friendships with fellow workers and customers over his 20 years at Hy-Vee. When Calvin retired, he really enjoyed returning to the store to visit and tease his former co-workers.
Calvin passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center reaching the age of 75 years, 2 months and 30 days.
Calvin was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his brother, Darrell and his wife, Barb Sneiderman of Sheldon; a niece, Jona (John) Fitzsimmons and family, nephew, Kirk (Kim) Sneiderman and family, nephew, Tony (Jonny) Sneiderman along with other relatives and friends.
