CADES TODD GRANSTRA
Cades Todd Granstra, the son of Billy Joe Granstra and Marieta (Cades) Schultz, was born January 17, 1968 in Sheldon, IA. He attended and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1987. After high school, Cades worked for his father on the family farm, did various jobs in the Sheldon area and was employed for a number of years for Andringa Roofing. Cades passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2006 at the home of his brother in Sheldon, reaching the age of 38 years, 5 months and 22 days.
Cades was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. He loved fishing for catfish, hunting, trapping and just being in the outdoors. He especially enjoyed being on the homestead with his brother, Cody and spending time with his nephews, James and Chris.
Cades leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Billy Joe Granstra of Sheldon, IA; his mother and step-father, Marieta and Don Schultz of Sheldon, IA; a sister, Lisa and her husband, Kevin Baxter of Lost Nation, IA; a brother, Cody Joe Granstra of Sheldon, IA; a sister, Billie Marie and her husband, Corey Diekevers of Hospers, IA; three nephews, James, Chris and Jackson; one niece, Danielle; three cousins, Hunter, Heathern and Ian; two uncles, Donley Granstra and his wife, Patricia of Carroll, IA; Richy Lee Granstra and his wife, Jacque of Eureka, CA; and a multitude of hunting and fishing buddies.
He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Dallas Dawn on August 25, 1970; his paternal grandparents, Bill and Aletha “Blondie” Granstra; and his maternal grandparents, Hans and Lisa Cades.
I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free
I’m following the path God has laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work, or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found peace at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I’ve savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me
God wanted me now; He set me free.
