BRUCE F. MAIER
Bruce Faber Maier, the son of Sherman and Helen (Faber) Maier was born April 14, 1935 in Dumont, Iowa. He received his education in schools in Dumont, Allison and later graduated from high school in Greene, Iowa. He went on to attend Barber College in Des Moines, Iowa. He was called into the service, serving in the United States Army from 1962 until his discharge in 1965, being stationed in Japan. On March 31, 1963, he was united in marriage to Ella Mae Hodges at the little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple first lived in Japan, while Bruce was in the service, later returning to Iowa. The couple spent a time in Canada, while Bruce managed the first McDonald’s in Winnipeg. The couple returned to Greene, Iowa and in 1970 moved to Paullina, where Bruce ran Maier’s Barber Shop for 32 years. When he retired 2003, he had been a barber for a total of 52 years. He passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the Orange City Hospital in Orange City, Iowa reaching the age of 70 years, 11 months and 7 days.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina and the Russell West Post of the American Legion of Paullina.
Bruce leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Ella Mae of Paullina; two sons, Gary and his wife, Jeane Maier of Paullina and Douglas Maier of Alton; a daughter, Vickie Hockey of Paullina; also 8 grandchildren; his mother, Helen Lampman of Greene, Iowa; a brother Roger Maier of Belton, Missouri; a sister, Shirley Derr of Maynard, Iowa; two step-sisters, Marlys Miller and Janice Miller both of Allison, Iowa; and a step-brother, Harold Miller of Columbia, South Carolina; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Keith and a adopted sister, Sharon.
