BERNY “BOB” DOLIESLAGER
Berny “Bob” Dolieslager, the son of Gerrit and Effie (DeBondt) Dolieslager, was born January 19, 1919, in Sioux Center, Iowa. He received his education in both the Sioux Center and Archer, Iowa areas. On June 28, 1945, he was united in marriage to Bertha Van Heuvelen in Hospers, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple lived in Hospers, Primghar, Galva and Hartley,
before moving to Sheldon in 1954. Bob was employed for many years as a carpenter before his retirement. His wife preceded him in death on February 3, 1998, in Sheldon. Bob continued to make his home in Sheldon. In 2000, Bob moved to live with his daughter Betty. He passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, reaching the age of 85 years, 11 months and 10 days.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, Sheldon Senior Citizens and dinner date. He enjoyed listening to books, playing his harmonica, fishing, playing with his cat, Kit and his dog, Angel and visiting with relatives and friends.
Bob leaves to cherish his memory four daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Tom Pohlen of Hutchinson, Minnesota; Evonne and Ray Schultz of Darwin, Minnesota; Helen and Jan Verdoorn of Hartley, Iowa; and Betty and Tom Gonnerman of Sheldon, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Henry and his wife Alvina Van Heuvelen of Primghar, Iowa and Vern Schemper of Sheldon, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Alice Van Heuvelen of Sheldon, Iowa; Anna and her husband Richard Den Hartog in California; Jenny and her husband Sid Wagenaar of Archer; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha; granddaughter, Shelley Gonnerman; his parents, Gerrit and Effie Dolieslager; three brothers and their wives Gerrit and Tina, Bill and Liz, Case and Elizabeth; two sisters and their husbands, Rika and Pete Van Dyke, Nelva and John DeVries; brothers and sisters-in-law Gilbert and Edith Van Heuvelen; Raymond Van Heuvelen; Edith and Herman Eggink; Bernard and Margaret Van Heuvelen and Harriet Schemper; his parents-in-law.
