BILLY J. ZUERCHER

Billy Jay Zuercher, son of Peter and Thelma (Dowse) Zuercher, was born April 21, 1922 in Great Bend, KS where he lived for a short period before moving to Macksville, KS. While attending Macksville High School, Bill was an Eagle Scout and participated in numerous sports. After graduation in 1940, he attended Ft. Hays State College. From 1942 to 1946, Bill served in the U.S. Army under General Patton in the Third Army. He and his first wife, Lolita Miller, farmed the Whitewater Falls Stock Farm. In the 1950’s they moved to Wichita, KS where Bill worked in sales. His second marriage to Wanda Lee Clark lasted until her death in 1991. He then moved to Colorado, where he met Dorothy Brink. They were married in 1993 and retired to Sheldon, IA in 1998.
Bill has shown his talent, time and time again, with the numerous “home make-over’s”, photography and stained glass. He loved fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends. We will always remember the side line comments that showed his engaging sense of humor. Of those who were blessed with knowing him, Bill was a wonderfully kind, caring and gentle man.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Zuercher of Sheldon; four children, Bill C. Zuercher of Denver, CO; Leslie Zuercher-Sublett (Sissy) of Wichita, KS; Judy Zuercher of San Jose, CA; Jan Aaron of Wichita, KS; stepsons, David Brink of Spencer; Steve Brink and Jeff Brink both of Des Moines; and Lyle Brink of Sheldon; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; 9 step grand-children and 2 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jay Lance Zuercher of Denver, CO and a grand-daughter, Jenny Hattan of Wichita, KS; his parents, Peter and Thelma Zuercher of Hutchinson, KS; and a sister, Berniece Thompson of Lenexa, KS.
