BETTY E. HINTZ
Betty Ellen Hintz, the daughter of Marius and Louisa Petersen, was born on March 9, 1927 in Marcus, Iowa. She attended country school in her early years and the Archer Grade School when her family moved to the Primghar area. She graduated from Primghar High School. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Marcus. She was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church of Primghar. She has been a baptized and confirmed member of Grace Lutheran since it was organized in 1938. She was united in marriage to Norbert Hintz on January 27, 1950 at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Marcus. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Primghar. They had two sons, Lee and Russell and one daughter, Joy.
Betty was a lifelong resident of Primghar and an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, the Afternoon Circle and the Grace Lutheran Quilters. In addition to enjoying spending time with her family and volunteering at her church, Betty was an avid gardener. She proudly cared for her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved sewing and quilting, creating countless quilts for her church and family. She was a voracious and daily reader, often reading several books at a time on a variety of subjects. She was an accomplished baker and particularly loved baking Christmas cookies and other holiday treats. As an animal lover and doting pet owner, she loved and cared for many lucky animals throughout her life. While visiting her daughter, Betty passed away at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, Minnesota on April 13, 2017, having attained the age of 90 years, 1 month and 4 days.
