Funeral services for Betty B. Johnson, age 96, of Archer who passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at MercyOne Primghar Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, June 10, 2021, at the Archer United Methodist Church with Pastor Jacob Sandholm ~ officiating.
Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar.
Visitation with family present will be from 5 – 7 P.M. on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Primghar.
Betty Bernice, the daughter of Harm and Grace (Luitjens) Seggerman was born on November 6, 1924 in Remsen Township. She grew up in the Remsen/Marcus area with her twelve (12) siblings, including twin brother Bob Seggerman. She attended county grade school and graduated from Marcus High School in 1946.
Betty married Marvin Johnson on June 10, 1947 at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus. The couple made their home on the Johnson family farm near Hospers until 1978 and later moved to nearby Archer. Betty worked as a nurse in Orange City and Primghar hospitals until her retirement. Marvin farmed and was a teacher in Primghar. The couple had four (4) children, Neil, Lynn, Dean, and Lisa.
Betty was a very active member of the Archer UMC. Betty was also involved with the American Cancer Society and United Methodist Women. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, and enjoyed making quilts for her family, friends, and various charitable organizations. Betty and her family enjoyed spending time together at the family cottage on Spirit Lake where they made many wonderful memories. She especially loved spending time with her sisters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her children: Neil (Susan) Johnson of Paullina, Lynn Johnson-Blake (Don Blake) of Spirit Lake, Dean (Lissa) Johnson of Hospers, and Lisa (Merlin) Winckler of Collinsville, VA. Grandchildren: Erik Johnson of Elk Point, SD; Alec (Suzanne) Johnson of Vermillion, SD; Carl (Sarah Patchett) Blake of Gilbert, AZ; Karin (Michael) Hennessy of Brooklyn, NY; Emily (Benjamin) Bonnema of Elk Point, SD; Lukas Johnson of Sheldon, IA; and Ava Winckler of Chicago, IL. Great grandchildren: Victoria, Sophia, Hayes, Nash, Georgia, and Jack Johnson; Chloe, Stella, and Violet Bonnema; Hugo, Atlas, and Leif Hennessy; and many nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin, her siblings Anna, Alma, Herman, Harm, Gertrude, Gloria, Eilert, Carolyn, Dorothy, Bob, and Bill.
Betty will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
