BETH YVONNE NELSON
Beth Yvonne Nelson, the daughter of Forrest O. and Jessie (Allinson) Gordon, was born June 21, 1921 in Hitchcock, South Dakota. She grew-up in Wolsey, South Dakota, where she received her education and graduated from Wolsey High School 1939. She then attended Nursing School in Mitchell, South Dakota graduating in 1942 with her Registered Nursing Diploma. On March 20, 1943, she was united in marriage to Herbert Milton Nelson in Huron, South Dakota. The young couple made their home in Wessington, South Dakota. After Herb’s discharge from the Navy and the completion of his college education, they moved to Sheldon, Iowa in 1956. Beth was the community school nurse for 24 years. Her husband preceded her in death on September 4, 1993 in Sioux City, Iowa. In March of 2003, she became a resident of the Fieldcrest Assisted Living Facility in Sheldon. Beth passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2005, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 84 years and 2 months.
Beth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon, Iowa; and held an office with the Esther Circle of the church for many years. She also assisted with the Blood Mobile Services for many years.
Beth is survived by her children, Dennis and his wife, Gail Nelson of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Karen Barker of San Jose, California; Jean and her husband, Bruce Lindstrom of St. Peters, Missouri; and a daughter-in-law, Charmain Nelson of Big Sur, California; seven grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters and their husbands, June and Harlow Larsen of Huron, South Dakota; Maxine and Robert Reed of Orlando, Florida; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Nelson; her husband, parents and a brother, Keith Gordon during World War II.
