Bernard “Bernie” Max Reinhardt Paulsen, the son of Clarence and Ida (Fegebank) Paulsen was born on December 1, 1938, on the farm near Granville, Iowa. He was baptized on March 19, 1939, at Zion Lutheran Church in Calumet and later confirmed on May 24, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. His education began in country school through the eighth grade until he attended Alton High School and graduated from Paullina High School in 1956. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956 and served in Europe and was honorably discharged in December of 1960. He was united in marriage to Judy Bjork on May 1, 1957, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. After their marriage the couple farmed near Paullina for many years. They moved into Paullina in 1987. Bernie moved into Happy Siesta Care Center in January of 2025, where he passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 21 days.

Bernie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. He enjoyed fishing and hunting out west, trap shooting, golfing, bowling, and playing cards.
