Benjamin Kruizenga, the son of John and Winnie (Bonnema) Kruizenga was born April 16, 1927 in Sioux Center, Iowa. He received his education in Sioux Center schools. At the age of 16, he started driving a truck; he hauled gravel until moving to California, where he drove a truck for 20 years. He returned to Iowa, later living in Fairview, South Dakota and operating with his brother Mel, a car lot in Canton, South Dakota. On December 17, 1977, he was united in marriage to Judith Brownmiller at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. After their marriage the couple lived in Hospers, where Ben was the janitor for the First Presbyterian Church. He passed away at the Orange City Hospital on Thursday, April 7, 2005, reaching the age of 77 years, 11 months and 21 days.
He attended the First Presbyterian Church in Hospers and enjoyed fishing, taking rides with his brother, the outdoors and special times with his family.
Ben leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Judith of Hospers, IA; one son, Duane and his wife, Gina Kruizenga of Spring Lake, CA; a daughter, Diane Lotts of Artesia, CA; three grandsons; two granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; five sisters, Katie Kosters of Mankato, MN; Alice Dolieslager of Hospers, IA; Esther Schoneveld of Ontario, CA; Winifred Coulander of Hospers, IA; Mary Ann Wiarda of Rock Rapids, IA; two brothers, Pete and his wife, Wilma Kruizenga of Buckley, WA; Melvin and his wife, Mary Kruizenga of Hospers, IA; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Kruizenga of CA; Linda Kruizenga of Houston, TX; Janet Kruizenga of Rock Valley, IA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jan and Ed Bettin of Paullina, IA; and Bill and Cindy Brownmiller of Haynesville, LA; many nieces and nephews and his very favorite friend Oscar, his wiener dog.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dena Van Ravenswaay; and three brothers, Dick, Johnny and Glen Kruizenga.
