ARDYTH T. HIBBING
Ardyth T. Hibbing, the daughter of Bernt and Karina (Lura) Berntson, was born July 1, 1922 on the family farm northeast of Paullina, Iowa. She attended country school and graduated from Paullina High School in 1940. She went on to receive her teacher’s certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught country school in O’Brien County for 4 years. On December 9, 1945, she was united in marriage to Vernon Hibbing at her parent’s farm home near Paullina. After their marriage the couple lived one year in Des Moines, until moving to the Hibbing family farm northwest of Paullina. The couple farmed northeast of Sutherland from 1954 until 1966, when they returned and farmed the Hibbing family farm until their retirement. Her husband preceded her in death on June 2, 1996 in Primghar. She moved into Paullina in 2001 and has made her home at the Paullina Care Center since March of 2004. She passed away at the care center on Monday, January 29, 2007, reaching the age of 84 years, 6 months and 28 days.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Siloam Lutheran Church in Paullina on November 8, 1942 and was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. She was a member of the Ladies Aid of the church. She had taught Bible school and had been involved in Bible study and was a member of the Birthday Club. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, playing the organ and painting.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Helen and her husband, Neil Holck of Trenton, Missouri; Paul and his wife, Jo Hibbing of Paullina, Iowa; John and his wife, Anne Hibbing of Lincoln, Nebraska; Sharon and her husband, Jon Van Beek of Primghar, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, Tony, Samantha, Sophia, Devin, Rachel and Taryn; a brother and his wife, Curtiss and Uneva Berntson of Paullina; also other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, Glenn, Leslie and Burdette and two sisters, Beulah and Alice.
