ARLEN E. VAN DER WILT
Arlen Elroy Van Der Wilt, the son of Arnold and Nellie (Groendyke) Van Der Wilt was born on July 16, 1946 in Sibley, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Sibley High School in 1964. On April 15, 1969, Arlen was united in marriage to Sharon Klaassen in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple lived in many towns in northwest Iowa before settling in Boyden, Iowa. Arlen was employed with Demco Manufacturing as a foreman of the brake department before being forced to quit do to a stroke in 2000. Arlen passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa reaching the age of 69 years, 5 months and 26 days.
Arlen was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed working on cars, riding motorcycle and was also a helping hand when anyone needed help with his carpentry skills.
Arlen is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sharon of Boyden; children, Doug Van Der Wilt of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Shelly Veltkamp of Rock Valley, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Drew Kersten, Andrea Kersten, Dakota Van Der Wilt, Dillion Van Der Wilt, Wade Veltkamp, CeJay Craft, Sean Veltkamp and Allison Veltkamp; four siblings and their spouses, Nancy and LeRoy Venenga of Sanborn, Iowa, Edna and Darwin Van Maasdam of Ocheyedan, Iowa, Harold and Joyce Van Der Wilt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Ruth and Tom Dagel of Sibley, Iowa; brothers and sisters-in-law; also, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Arlen was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Dennis Van Der Wilt; mother and father-in-law, Bill and Margaret Klaassen and two brothers-in-law, Richard and Joel Klaassen.
