ALICE MARIE IHLE
Alice Marie Towe Ihle, the daughter of Severn E. Towe and Helen Maud (Waldhelm) Towe was born January 4, 1918 at Paullina, Iowa. She attended rural school, Dale Number 7 and graduated from Paullina High School in 1935. She furthered her education at Iowa State Teacher’s College (UNI) in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After graduation from UNI, Alice Marie taught in O’Brien County Rural Schools for six years. Alice Marie married Merle Albert Ihle on December 1, 1939 in Jackson, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple farmed near Paullina for thirty-five years before moving into town in 1976. Her husband preceded her in death on August 17, 1998 in Paullina. She passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2005 at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar, Iowa, reaching the age of 87 years, 5 months and 15 days.
She became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in 1937 and joined the Presbyterian Women in 1945. She also taught Sunday School for over 20 years and served as a Deaconess for 12 years. She had been a member of Chapter FX PEO since 1946.
Alice Marie had a passion and talent for china painting. Many relatives and friends were honored with a gift of a beautiful hand-painted and personalized plate, cup, clock or baby shoe from Alice’s vast collection of works. She also enjoyed bird watching, flowers, crossword puzzles, playing cards, reading, traveling, bowling, golf, fishing and crafts.
Alice Marie leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Gary and Becky Ihle of Portland, Oregon; John Ihle of Paullina, Iowa; and LuAnn Ihle of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two brothers, Larry Towe of Paullina, Iowa; Donald and Jane Towe of Carrollton, Texas; a sister-in-law, Orle Towe of Paullina, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Jack Turner of Texas; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, and three sisters.
