ALEVA A. EARNEST
Aleva Alice (Diment) Earnest, the daughter of Robert and Bernetta Jane (Bubb) Diment was born July 3, 1909 on a farm near Danbury, Iowa in Miller Township of Woodbury County, Iowa. She passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Valley Lodge Nursing Home in Correctionville, Iowa, reaching the age of 99 years, 4 months and 2 days. She received her elementary education in country school #6 in Miller Township. She graduated from Oto High School in May 1926. After graduation she taught rural school in Woodbury County, Iowa.
In December of 1930, she was united in marriage to Wilmer Earnest. They lived in Danbury and farmed near Sergeant Bluff. After World War II, they farmed near Hinton and Correctionville; they gave up farming due to Wilmer’s health in the fall of 1957. After moving to Paullina, Aleva entered Northwestern College in Orange City. After graduation she taught at Archer, Nevada and Dysart and Geneseo in Iowa. She enjoyed teaching especially the students. She retired in May of 1974 and returned to Paullina. She remained in Paullina until entering the nursing center in Correctionville in February of 2007.
She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville, the National Education Association and the Russell West Post of the American Legion Auxiliary of Paullina.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Turner of Fort Worth, Texas; a son, Willis and his wife, Cyndie Earnest of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Angela and Michael of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; a brother, Merle Diment of Des Moines, a sister, Joyce Miller of Sioux City, many nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer; a son, Richard Leo; a granddaughter, Lisa Turner; four brothers, Ben, Troy, Robert and Russell; and three sisters, Margie, Goldie and Lola.
