ADALINE E. VAN MEETEREN
Adaline Esther (Perrott) Van Meeteren was born in Hospers, Iowa on March 1, 1921, the daughter of Henry F. and Mae (McGrath) Perrott. In her early childhood she moved to Sheldon with her parents. Adaline received her education in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1939. She then attended Sheldon Junior College for 2 years and a year at Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. After college she taught in country schools in the Sheldon area and later in Melvin, Iowa. Adaline married her dear friend Art Van Meeteren on January 20, 1944, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon. After her husband’s discharge from the service during World War II, the young couple made their home on the family farm east of Sheldon. They raised and educated their 5 children: Tom, Bob, Lynn, Vonda and Renee. In 1981, the couple retired and enjoyed their summers at their lake home in Okoboji and in 1994; they built a new home and moved into Sheldon. Adaline passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center – Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 85 years, 5 months and 22 days.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Sheldon and of the Ladies Guild; a 50 year member of the Catholic Daughters of America and retired Past Grand Regent. She was also a member of the Merry-Go-Round Club, (the oldest club in Sheldon.)
Those left to cherish Adaline’s memory are her husband, Art of Sheldon; her 5 children and their spouses, Tom and Sue Van Meeteren of Freemont, NE; Bob and Cheryl Van Meeteren of Sheldon, IA; Lynn and Elvina Van Meeteren of George, IA; Vonda and Larry Matchie of Roland, IA; Renee and Jim Sims of El Paso, TX; 11 grandchildren, Robbie and her husband, Steve Aamot; Christie and her husband Shane Jager; Mike and his wife, Tami Van Meeteren; Heath Van Meeteren; John Van Meeteren; Melissa Van Meeteren; Bob Van Meeteren; Sara Matchie; Chad Matchie; James Sims; Christopher Sims; 4 great-grandchildren, Josh, Hunter and Megan Jager and Madison Van Meeteren; a sister-in-law, Lavonne Perrott of Sheldon, IA; 3 nephews and a niece; and her special friends, the Merry-Go-Round Club; Dr. Matt and Jody Radke and Sylvester and Lillian Van Oordt; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Vincent Perrott and several aunts and uncles.
