Roger D. Smith
Roger Duane Smith the son of Paul and Martha (Koepp) Smith was born on March 9, 1934 in Ramona, South Dakota. He came to Primghar when he was 8 years old and finished his education and graduated from Primghar High School in 1953. Roger was confirmed on April 3, 1957 and later baptized on December 4, 1957. On December 14, 1956 he was united in marriage to Loretta Pauling at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. Roger worked and managed the Primghar Lumber Store for 50 years until retiring in 2003. Roger entered Pearl Valley Rehab and Care Center in December of 2018 where he passed on Saturday, January 12, 2019 reaching the age of 84 years, 10 months and 3 days.
Roger was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar where he served many different offices on the council. He was a 30 year member of the Primghar Fire Department. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and playing cards. He loved spending time with his friends and family and cheering on the Hawkeyes.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years, Loretta Smith; four children, Greg (Deb) Smith of Norwalk, Iowa, Steve (Elaine) Smith of Primghar, Dan (Deb) Smith of Rockwall, Texas and Brad (Jodi) Smith of Primghar, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Chad (Mindy), Tiffani (Cory), Chanc, Justin (Tonya), Jordan (Jesse), Kelli, Kendall, Kayla, Rylee (Ryan), Jaynee and Maycee; thirteen great grandchildren, Bentley, Kingston, Ella, Leah, Brenna, Bria, Savannah, Jorja, Cayden, Brynlee, Braylen, Kaylee and Jessa. He is also survived by nieces; nephews; others relatives and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Martha; four brothers, Paul, Darrel, Howard and Orville; three sisters, Ruth, Darline, Elvina and three grandsons.
