JAMES D. WESTER
James Donald Wester, the son of Knute and Alfhild (Stark) Wester was born July 14, 1935, in rural Paullina, Iowa. He was baptized and later confirmed at Siloam Lutheran Church in Paullina. He attended country school as a boy and graduated from Paullina High School in 1953. On March 4, 1956, he was united in marriage to Ruth Ebel at the St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. Jim was fortunate to spend his life doing what he loved-farming. The couple farmed two years near Gaza, Iowa and then began farming the family farm where he had grown up. Together they raised three children: Daniel, Carol and Becky. Jim and Ruth retired from farming and moved into Paullina in 2000. He passed away on Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland, Iowa reaching the age of 77 years, 1 month and 10 days.
He was a lifelong member of Siloam Lutheran Church in Paullina and served the Lord in many capacities there. Jim was also a member of the Paullina Lions and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, playing cards and especially going to Dyno’s for coffee daily. His sense of humor and love for trivia made him many friends there. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, and visiting with everyone brought him much joy. Jim and Ruth partnered with each other crafting items to take to sales, bringing joy to both the seller and the buyer.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruth of Paullina, their children, Dan Wester of Lytton, Iowa; Carol and her husband, Rainer Nielsen of Sgt. Bluff, Iowa and Becky and her husband, Jack Ysidro of Wichita, Kansas; two grandchildren, Erin and Adam Nielsen; one sister, Louise Harris of Jefferson, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Ann and her husband, Chuck Blanchard of Bend, Oregon and Evelyn Puckett of Eagle Creek, Oregon; also numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.
Jim was preceded in death by infant daughter, Susan; his parents, Knute and Alfhild; step-mother, Hilda; mother and father-in-law, Edwin and Hilda Ebel and three brothers-in-law.
